Secunda Rally

It’s been some time since I wrote a blog.  My life really got hectic and my photography took a back seat.  Things have improved though and recently I have really been enjoying my photography.

One genre of photography that I do enjoy is motorsport.  Like most of my photography, it is not simply a matter of taking pictures.  It is being outdoors, hearing the cars smelling the fumes and getting dirty!  Two weeks ago was the Rally at Secunda.  I set off quite early in the morning even though it didn’t start until 10 am.  It is always useful to have a look at the course to see where the best place to take photographs will be.  The cars do a number of different stages during the course of the day so you have to keep moving from one place to another.

Here are some of my pics.

I used my Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 lens.

For the water shots I used a shutter speed of 1000th of a sec.  A high shutter speed works well here because you cannot see the wheels so they don’t need to be moving.  The high shutter speed freezes the water and you get some great effects.

For the other shots I used a shutter speed of either 200th of a sec or 160th of a sec.  The slower shutter speed really gives the wheels movement but I do get a lot of failures!
